As part of a growing chorus to remove the Confederate battle emblem from Mississippi’s state flag, a group of more than 60 prominent former and current residents took out a full-page advertisement in Jackson’s Clarion-Ledger Sunday calling for the state to strike the symbol.

Alabama, which handed Mississippi State its first loss on Saturday, moved from No. 5 to No. 1 in the College Football Playoff Top 25 released Tuesday night.

Yet Mississippi State also stayed firm in the Playoff race, falling only to No. 4. The Bulldogs are one of three one-loss teams in the top four, joining No. 2 Oregon and No. 3 Florida State.

Last week’s top four was Mississippi State at No. 1, Oregon at No. 2, Florida State at No. 3 and TCU at No. 4.
